Jaf [and some other stuff] FAQ

All the things you probably would have asked had you thought about them.

And the cake/biscuit question :-)

Q. So, are Jaffa Cakes actually cakes or biscuits? What's the deal with that?

A. CAKES! As though the name didn't make it clear enough, do you really need to be told twice? They have a sponge base for goodness sake! But don't take it from us, here's a quote from that expert of biscuits, Nicey of NiceCupOfTeaAndASitDown.com:

Q. Are Jaffa cakes biscuits?

A. No, no they're not. Apart from being called cakes they obviously have a sponge base. Granted they appear to be some kind of luxury biscuit being chocolate covered and shipping in a box.

And from United Biscuits themselves?

Back in 1991, we fought a battle with the VAT man to prove that Jaffa Cakes are cakes, not biscuits, and therefore should not attract VAT.

So there we have it, Jaffa Cakes *are* cakes.

Q. But supermarkets put them in the biscuit aisle! Surely they know best?

A. Better than Nicey and UB? It is true that supermarkets do do this. We at Jaffery Goodness find this offensive to the true nature of Jaffa Cakes and will be starting a petition in due course in order to see that this injustice is alleviated as quickly as possible.

Q. Hey! You guys didn't answer my question!

A. That's what the forums are for! Ask (almost) anything you like and we'll do our best to help you :-)
