paulb Just wanted to submit our jaffa cake findings: Some friends (12 of) and I have just taken part in a jaffa cake tasting test. After scoring 11 brands of Jaffa cake for: orange disc, biscuit and chocolate coating flavour, consistency and quantity, 62% of participants rated Tesco's value as the best overall cake. Just as surprising was the fact that McVities rated on average only fourth best. Indeed, one participant suggested that its after taste was foul and not dissimilar to the flavour of a king prawn; he didnt finish his cake. I actually rated the McVities cake the best and happily gobbled up his left overs and didnt detect the aforementioned fishyness. Maybe he simply dislodged a piece of fish that had becomed wedged between his teeth and was freed during the contest, leading to the inevitable taste. Unfortunate for him - a bonus for me. I hope every 'jaffa' fan will try this test with like minded friends as it is truly revealing and quashed all those Teso-value predjudices. Well done TEsco. Keep up the good work. Bye for now. James Wow, I've never actually tried Tesco's Jaffas! *hangs head in shame*

Cheers for the review paulb, and welcome to the JG forums. I'm off shopping!

pete How can anyone even be in the same room as an unpure Jaffa cake. We all know that McVities cakes are hand made by experienced munchkens

Bobbi Have to agree with Pete on this one, McVities rules all, and I have tried many a jaffa cake to compare the difference. I found Tesco Jaffas to be lacking in the tang that McVities have, and also I find the Mcvits cake to be overall more appetising (you must check sell by dates tho as the cake gets dry after its date) Jacobs on the other hand are altogether stronger in the smashing orangey bit department, and so I could understand a Jaffa-holic preffering these (find them altogether too clouting though)

Moreover, I must add that McVities pioneered the Jaffa Cake. All other are copies and designed to mimic these originals. Sorry kids, but McVities rule all in my books.

Linz I was wondering Pete, don't feel you have to anwser this, but does the McVities factory only make Jaffa Cakes to be packaged in McVities packaging?

I can't belive all of the smaller, own brand manufactures have Jaffa Factories, so they must buy wholesale Jaffas and i was wondering who it was from. For instance many of the own brand ketchups and cokes actually are just differently packaged marketed versions of the real thing. Apparently, Ibuprofen is as well , but i guess thats not a big deal really!
